New Glasgow, NS - A new partnership is forging together in Pictou County to support prospective and current students looking for support and guidance through their journey in the healthcare field.
The Mentoring Plus Strategy, which uses an intergenerational approach to connect knowledgeable retirees with individuals in need of mentorship, has partnered with Healthy Pictou County, a physician-led community effort supporting the attraction and retention of healthcare providers and students in our community.
The partnership provides those from Pictou County considering or currently in any area of healthcare with the introduction to a knowledgeable retiree in our community, who is willing to offer guidance, mentorship and advice.
“The healthcare field can be overwhelming, and there are so many career opportunities that some may not even think of. We’re thrilled to have assembled an incredible group of healthcare mentors with decades of experience and unwavering passion for their work, and a willingness to share that and help guide our next generation of healthcare providers,” said Geralyn MacDonald, Assistant Director/Mentoring Plus Coordinator, New Glasgow/Pictou County.
“This is a really exciting opportunity for us to support the long-term recruitment and retention efforts for healthcare providers in all capacities in Pictou County – whether its nurses, physiotherapists, naturopaths, physicians, medical office administrators, dentists, optometrists – the list goes on. If you, or your child or someone you know from Pictou County is looking for support, we’d love to connect,” said Nicole LeBlanc, Project Navigator for Healthy Pictou County.
The groups are looking for students and prospective students to reach out to get connected and are also looking for retirees looking to share their time and expertise from the healthcare field.
“It’s really important that people exploring or pursuing careers in healthcare from Pictou County feel celebrated and supported,” said LeBlanc. “It’s just another way that the local community can send that message that we’d love for them to consider placements here during their education, to connect them with experienced mentors, and hope they they’ll consider opportunities here at home when they’re ready to start their careers.”
